Why do leaks happen
after prostate cancer treatment?

. Leaking urine is a common issue many individuals face. This is because during prostate surgery the muscles around the prostate can be damaged, so they're not able to control the flow of urine.Leaks are more common in the early months after treatment for prostate cancer and often get better or completely go away as you recover.
As you work with your doctor, nurse or care team to improve, remember that urine is a normal body fluid, just like sweat, ejaculate or saliva. And usually, only small amounts of urine leak.
What can I do to prevent
leaking during sex?
If you’re having trouble with leaking before or during sex, you can try the following tips:
Urinate (pee) before sex, then wait a few seconds. Use your fingertips to gently push the urine from behind the scrotum and down the urethra. You can then shake the last few drops out in the normal way.
Put a soft towel under you when having sex. Also keep warm water nearby, if you need to rinse.
Disguise the urine by using a lubricant.
Wear a condom to catch any urine that comes out during sex.
Avoid oral sex and use your partner's hand for sexual stimulation.
Try having sex in the shower. It can help you to relax and will wash away any urine that comes out.
Talk to your doctor, nurse or care team.
In addition to these tips, some men use a penile ring (also called constriction rings, tension bands, erectile dysfunction rings or cock rings) to help with leaks. The penile ring goes around the base of the penis when erect and presses down on the urethra, stopping urine from passing through. You can keep the ring on for a maximum of 30 minutes. Keeping it on for longer periods may damage the tissues in the penis. You may need to experiment until you find the right tightness so that it prevents urine leaking but is still comfortable for you.
